The King of 94 is the annual world championship tournament for the video game NHL'94. There are two separate tournaments: One tournament is played on the Sega Genesis console and the other is played on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Players have travelled from all across North America to compete. The winner of each tournament is crowned the "King of 94" and receives a trophy. The top three place finishers are awarded cash prizes.
This tournament was started in 2015 by Mike McBryan while he was filming his documentary about NHL'94 titled "Pixelated Heroes". He hosted a tournament at Real Sports Bar in Toronto that had 128 entries.
In 2019, a separate Auto Goalie tournament was added for one year, then brought back again in 2024. This tournament is for new or casual players.
Due to Covid, 2020 and 2021 live tournaments were replaced with online tournaments. Visit Results in the website menu to catch recaps of each tournament!
In 2022, a 2v2 tournament was added for one year and then brought back again in 2024.
